The company has just released iPod software update version 1.1 for the 6th generation iPod nano, which adds two new features to the tiny touchscreen player. When Apple introduced the second generation of iPods in July 2002, they sold two versions, one that included iTunes for Macintosh users and another that included Musicmatch Jukebox for Windows users. The software bundled with the first generation iPod was Macintosh-only, so Windows users had to use third-party updates like ephPod or XPlay to manage their music. You use a special diagnostic mode that looks like you have hacked it. The thing is, you don't actually hack it.

On the iPod classic, the update appears to fix some issues with Cover Flow, and provides a solution for the “spinning disk” problem.I plugged my iPod Nano 8gig in and iTunes told me that firmware 1.1.3 was out for it. To reset iPod nano or iPod classic settings, choose Settings→Reset Settings from the iPod nano Home screen or iPod classic main menu, and then select Reset (or Cancel to cancel). Then it says whether that version is the latest operating system or if theres a software update available. If you continue to press the buttons after the logo appears, the iPod displays the low battery icon, and you must connect it to a power source before using it again.
